In the Olde Days…
I’ve felt old recently, resorting to that familiar line of thinking – universal among graduates and elders– that it was a lot tougher when we did it.  I already feel this way about childhood, high school, college, and last weekend.   Importantly, this discussion of improvements and luxurious amenities in FY quality of life will resist the temptation to bang on about the financial meltdown.  I can’t imagine what I’ll be like in a few years if I feel this way in less than 12 months.

Welcome to Family Day!
Darden Family members,

Welcome to the Darden Family! We have been eagerly awaiting your arrival. My name is Kevin Martin, and I am the Darden Student Association’s Executive Vice President. First, let me apologize on behalf of the second year class for not calling home and visiting as much as you may have liked during our first year. It was probably for the best; some of us put a few extra pounds and were a bit grumpy at times, but we are back! Smiling, physically fit, and freshly tanned from

A Letter from Camp A Letter from Camp
Dear Mom and Dad:

Hello from Camp Darden!  I’m sorry I haven’t written yet, but the first few weeks have been crazy.  I’ve been making new friends in all my classes, and I really get along well with my learning team, which are like all my bunkmates.  My fellow campers are a little on the rowdy side, so it’s good that I’m loud, otherwise I think I would get lost in the shuffle!

I Know What You did Last Summer - Part 1

Jacqueline Grace

I interned with Harrah’s Entertainment at one of their four hotel/casino properties in Atlantic City.  As a President’s Associate General Management Intern, I worked closely with the executive team at Bally’s AC.  During the course of 10 weeks, I had two main projects.  The first was to launch and manage a new night-life concept—a bar/lounge that integrated gaming and entertainment in one space.  I created the brand concept deck, managed the final phases of design a

Darden Family Day Advice

TO THE PARENTS:
By Juday Rainey, a second year parent with experience

juday

DO register before the deadline.

DON’T forget to register before the deadline and have to call the school and basically beg them to let you attend Darden Family Day so your son/daughter doesn’t blame you for all his/her future failures because you didn’t show your support by attending Darden Family Day.

DO attend the Thursday Night Drinking Club event.
DON’T let your child save time by buying you two beers at once.  But,

Cold Call Chronicle: Private Buyout, Public Ownership, or an Alternative Solution?
Emily Murray stared into the white cement wall in the Cold Call Chronicle (CCC) office, pondering her next move.  (She would have been staring out of the window at the vibrant fall foliage and the faux-Jeffersonian parking garage, but their 6’ X 8’ space in the center of Camp Library doesn’t have any windows.)  When named the new publisher the previous spring, Emily had been ecstatic.  She even remained optimistic after learning that she would inherit over $2,000 in debt due to prior ma

Stuff MBAs Like: Being a Big Deal
There are few masters degrees that do not carry a title. An MBA is one of them. For this reason, many MBAs feel inadequate in the Graduate Degree population. The condition has been described in popular literature as the suffix complex. The MBA compensates for this complex by wholeheartedly convincing himself that he is a really big deal.

You’ll notice at dinner parties, if an MBA encounters one of his graduate school counterparts, he will immediately move into defensive mode and start talking

Where's My White Box?
So listen, this Thursday, the Darden faculty awarded fifteen Shermet Scholars with white, ribbon tied boxes.  I don’t know what’s in these white boxes.  My best guess is a picture of Mr. B on the beach (he’s wearing orange).  Regardless, I want one.  I’d bring it everywhere with me, even to my first day of post-MBA work.  And when I find the woman I want to marry, I’d gently place the unwrapped box on her lap, wink, and she’d fall madly in love with me and bear me ten children i

Verbally Aggressive Opossum Assaults MBA Students, Faculty
In the wake of a series of violent acts by animals targeting UVA students, including last month’s fox attacks, an opossum (Didelphis virginiana) has allegedly verbally assaulted numerous Darden students. Authorities describe the suspect as “furry… gray in color, having a pink nose, hairless tail and no mercy.”

Chris Branin (MBA ’10) was the first victim early last week at approximately 8:45 PM.

“When I looked around the shrub in Wilkinson, all I could see was a snout and a cup of Ear
