Darden Around the World
Diane Lee (D’10)
Erasmus University
Rotterdam, the Netherlands

diane lee picHello from Rotterdam!  And because you are probably wondering, Rotterdam is an hour south of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.  I’ve been here three weeks and still don’t know very much about the Dutch, but I can tell you that they certainly like their food fried.  Frites, fried meatballs, fried cheese, and doughnuts are on all the street corners here so don’t be surprised if you see me 20 pounds heavier in January.  I am also t

International Perspectives
It's curious to know how the American dream lives, particularly in Italy: there, when you think about living an MBA in United States, freaks out people! You look so cool, because you are going to live in a dream big country! Everyone expects everything to be big... it has to be big!  You're going to live in the big cities, drive a big car in a big highway and use a ton of fuel to do it…but how cool is being in big America? When you call home they just ask what was the biggest thing you saw in

Darden Cup Battles
By Atish Dipankar D’11 and Landry Ngambia D’10

The race for the Darden Cup is really heating up. Last heard, Section D & E were breathing down the shoulder of Section B with only 4 points separating the top 3.

darden cup pic 4It started off with Softball on September 19.  Only a few weeks into the Darden experience, it was a great time to get in some physical exercise.  With mild sunshine, this day offered the optimum conditions for a perfect Darden Cup kick-off.  Section E continued the trend that the

The News on News
Quivering in my boots at the prospect of interviewing two media icons, I (GC) recently sat down with Ed Festa (EF) and Brian Rainey (BR) of Darden News fame.  Festa and Rainey brazenly disregarded the old maxim that it’s a bad idea to argue with someone who buys ink by the barrel.  Or maybe they realized that we actually don’t buy any ink.  Either way, the ongoing rivalry between tradition and nouveau internet streaming phenomena bubbled to the surface quickly.  A redacted transcript fol

This is not 'Nam. This is Bowling. There are Rules.
A few short weeks ago, the Darden Bowling League (DBL) finished its fall round of rolling. Every Tuesday night, members of the Darden second year class gathered at the AMF bowling alley on Rte. 29 for an evening of Sam Adams pitchers, sub-standard pizza, and excellent company. Competing teams were divided into two divisions. That’s right, folks,we in the DBL have an Up- per League and a Social League. This is not for the faint of heart. When the author was registering her team, The Little Lebows

On Rap Sheets and Championships
If the NFL had a Chinese Lunar Calendar, the 2009 season would be the year the Chicken Came Home to Roost.  So many of the annoying characters and teams granted a karmic pass over the last several years are beginning to see the results of bad behavior.  In Washington, Dan Snyder is finally being lambasted for a decade of suck.  Buffalo has struggled after signing Terrell Owens, and the Bears are feeling the pain of mistaking J. Cutler for J. Elway.  Down in the Bayou, the Saints are proving

Where Are They Now: Neal Pavlic
How has it been for you to re-enter the looming specter of the real world?

Getting paid: good

Working in a cube: not so good.

pavlic picture 2The hardest part about working for a large company in a cube environment is sitting so much all day.  At Darden, I really enjoyed the variety of the day (classroom, Flagler Courtyard, my apartment, etc….).  All things considered, I put in more hours at Darden, but due to the variety of the work and my environment, it didn’t seem too overbearing.  That, and I obvio

Orzo, Fat Bastard, G3
By G3, School of the Hard Knocks ‘10

G3 is back with another Charlottesville restaurant review.  Our surprise guest for the evening turned out to be a very interesting dinner guest with his tales of worldly travels combined with a sarcastic wit.   In an effort to conceal our guest’s identity, he will heretofore be referred to as Fat Bastard.  Now, on to the review!

Upon entering Orzo we instantly appreciated the eclectic ambiance with the dining area exhibiting urban and industrial designs
